About Us

Feed the world through sustainable fish production

About 70 percent of the world is covered by the ocean. The ocean, however, only produces five percent of the world’s protein. Meeting the world’s growing demand for protein requires smarter data-driven farming and decision making. Aquabyte’s culture combines the best of Silicon Valley with the foremost expertise from the global aquaculture industry – starting with Norway.

Our founder, Bryton Shang, started Aquabyte with a simple ML-based camera in a San Francisco bathtub. Today, Aquabyte is a global leader with advanced technology that makes everyday life easier for fish farmers. We provide technology that enables fish farmers to meet the demands of radically better fish farming.

Our customers see us as a partner, not just another tool

Aquabyte has developed a unique all in one platform and solved global distribution within a self-service model. The platform provides fish farmers with critical value, and delivers at the intersection of computer vision, machine learning, edge processing, and fish biology.

WHY CHOOSE US?
We make fish welfare happen. Our international, cross-disciplinary teams work at the intersection of engineering, machine learning, and fish welfare, providing technology that enables fish farmers to meet the world’s growing demand for protein. Sustainably. Efficiently. We deliver radically better fish farming.

HOW DO WE DELIVER?
We produce healthy fish faster, and at lower cost, higher efficiency, and with better sustainability. Automatic lice counting, labor savings, less stress for fish, better welfare scoring, and biomass control.

WHAT DO WE DELIVER?
We deliver an all-in-one platform; a single camera that can do everything. We have also solved global distribution with a self-service model. Data driven and smarter decisions all over the world.

Aquabyte is on a mission to revolutionize the sustainability and efficiency of aquaculture. It is an audacious and incredibly rewarding mission. By making fish farming cheaper and more viable than livestock production, we aim to mitigate one of the biggest causes of climate change and help prepare our planet for impending population growth. Aquaculture is the single fastest growing food-production sector in the world, and now is the time to define how technology is used to harvest the sea for generations to come.

We are currently focused on helping global salmon farmers better understand their fish populations and make environmentally-sound decisions. Through custom underwater cameras, computer vision, and machine learning we are able to quantify fish weights, detect sea lice infestations, and generate optimal feeding plans in real time. Our product operates at three levels: on-site hardware for image capture, cloud pipelines for data processing, and a user-facing web application. As a result, there are hundreds of moving pieces and no shortage of fascinating challenges across all levels of the stack.

Above all, Aquabyte is a customer-driven company. Our product development is dictated by the needs of fish farmers and we prioritize customer delight in everything we do. We are committed to build a global, collaborative team that creates value far beyond Silicon Valley.
